ANDRITZ to upgrade Flash Drying for Rottneros Bruk AB, Sweden: Drying capacity increase of more than 50%

andInternational technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Rottneros Bruk AB to upgrade the CTMP pulp drying line at its Rottneros mill, Sweden. After the modernization, the Flash Dryer’s capacity will be increased by more than 50% while at the same time specific heat consumption will be reduced.  Start-up is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2016.

ANDRITZ will deliver a customized upgrade solution including a new drying stage as well as new cyclones, including complete mechanical erection. The newly designed cyclones will meet highest environmental standards, thus minimizing emissions.

“The target of this investment is to increase the production capacity and at the same time reduce the use of energy in our CTMP Flash Dryer. We’ve been having a long-lasting and very good cooperation with ANDRITZ for many years now, and this has been a strong reason to choose ANDRITZ as a supplier in this project”, says Nils Hauri, Production Manager at Rottneros mill.

Rottneros AB operates two pulp mills in Sweden with a total production capacity of almost 350,000 tons. The modernization will enable the company to raise its output at the Rottneros mill substantially.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has successfully started up the pulp line delivered to JSC Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill (APPM) at the Novodvinsk mill, Russia. The new line features ANDRITZ green liquor technology for efficient pulp cooking, refining, and washing and produces 1,000 t/day of semi-chemical pulp for the production of corrugated board from birch and aspen.

2016 02 02 084227

The ANDRITZ semi-chemical pulp line with green liquor technology at Arkhangelsk Pulp and Paper Mill’s Novodvinsk mill, Russia: Fiber quality and production capacity significantly increased, production costs and waste water volume substantially reduced. Photo: ANDRITZ

Semi-chemical pulp is produced in a combination of mild chemical treatment and subsequent mechanical treatment in which the fibers are liberated from the wood matrix. This delignification process step is interrupted at an early stage in order to increase the yield and produce stiff fibers – an important quality criterion in the production of corrugated medium. A major advantage of the ANDRITZ green liquor technology, which is mainly applied for hardwoods and enhances the fiber quality substantially, is the efficient and easy recovery of cooking chemicals in the adjacent kraft mill. Thus, no additional process steps are needed for chemical recovery.

With this new line, the production capacity of APPM has doubled, while productions costs and waste water volume have been substantially reduced.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from Guizhou Chitianhua to supply two tissue machines (TM5, TM6) with steel Yankees for a mill in Chishui city, Guizhou Province, for the production of high-quality facial wipes, toilet paper, and handkerchief paper. The start-up of TM5 is scheduled for the end of 2016 and of TM6 for the beginning of 2017.

2014 07 27 151341 hebei

The new PrimeLineST tissue machines have a design speed of 2,000 meters per minute and a paper width of 5.6 meters. The machines of this type are currently unique on the market because they combine a high-performance Yankee with a steam-heated hood. Both Yankees for Guizhou Chitianhua are made entirely of steel, have a diameter of 20 feet, and hence are among the largest in the world. They enable a high drying capacity and achieve remarkable cost savings compared to systems operated with gas because of usage of steam.

Both Yankees will be manufactured at the ANDRITZ steel Yankee business center in Foshan, China, which offers customers in China state-of-the-art manufacturing, local field service, and quality management.

International technology Group ANDRITZ has received an order from SCA to supply production technologies and equipment for the extension of SCAʼs Östrand pulp mill in Timrå, Sweden. Start-up is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018. The order is expected to enter into force in the next few weeks.

2015 12 02 084714

The scope of supply, with a high manufacturing portion in Sweden, includes wood yard equipment designed for cold climates, with debarking drums and HHQ chippers; a pulp dryer with innovative, energy-saving technologies that substantially reduce the mill’s operating costs, including a boiler exhaust energy recovery system, fine screening, a twin wire dewatering system, sheet dryer, cutter, and two balling lines; a major upgrade of the white liquor plant with new recausticizing machinery and a capacity increase of the existing lime kiln; and extension of the recovery boiler, which was supplied by ANDRITZ in 2006.

The mill expansion is one of the largest industrial investments in Sweden and the largest ever in northern Sweden. SCA Östrand will double its annual production capacity from 430,000 to 900,000 tons and become the largest mill in the world for softwood kraft pulp. About half of the production volume will be used for SCA’s own manufacturing of publication papers and hygiene products, while the remainder will be sold to external tissue producers to meet the growing demand for softwood kraft pulp.

2015 11 26 082503Following the successful rebuild and start-up of the wet section of the paper machine PM4 in 2010, international technology Group ANDRITZ has received a follow-up order from Cartiere Modesto Cardella to rebuild PM3 in Lucca, Italy. Start-up is scheduled for the end of 2016.

The scope of supply comprises an ANDRITZ PrimeFlow TW two-layer headbox with PrimeProfiler F dilution water control and PrimeForm TW gap former. The PM3 has a design speed of 1,200 m/min and produces fluting, testliner, and corrugated medium with a basis weight range of 80-150 gsm. The raw material is 100% waste paper.

The ANDRITZ design provides innovative, high dewatering performance for the production of corrugated base paper grades with minimum two-sidedness, thus there is as little difference as possible between the surface quality of the wire side and the surface quality of the top side of the paper web. The driving factors for Cartiere Modesto Cardellaʼs rebuild are significant improvements in paper quality and runability.
