The world's energy supply system is evolving at a fast pace. It is becoming more and more complex, facing new challenges but also providing many new opportunities. Siemens offers a variety of innovative and reliable solutions across all company sectors to meet the challenges of the new energy age. At this year's Cigré (International Council on Large Electric Systems) exhibition, taking place from August 26 – 31 in Paris, France, Siemens will focus on its solutions in the field of power transmission. Product highlights according to the motto "connecting and powering the world" will include the latest 800 kV UHVDC (ultra high-voltage direct-current transmission) system as well as the latest HVDC Plus and SVC Plus (Static Var Compensator) multilevel technology.

Siemens' HVDC and FACTS (flexible alternating-current transmission system) technologies provide a wide range of applications, that help transmit electricity over long distances, minimize transmission losses and make the whole power system more reliable and sustainable. In Paris, Siemens will also be exhibiting its high-voltage gas-insulated switchgear (GIS). Further highlights are the 8DN8 type switchgear for up to 170 kV, 64 kA, 4000 A and the 8DQ1 type switchgear with a single-break circuit breaker for up to 420 kV, 63 kA, 4000 A. Both types of GIS are extraordinarily small and operate at highest performance levels.

Cigré is the worldwide forum for professionals of the electric power industry with a total of 11,000 members. All key actors in power systems, i.e. producers, system operators, traders or equipment manufacturers join forces and share expertise to improve electric power systems of today and tomorrow. Siemens will be represented at level 3/booth 317 during the Cigré 2012 Session with power transmission products, systems and solutions that help to make power available wherever and whenever it is required and balance load and demand reliably.

Energy efficient and environmental friendly power transmission technology is part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2011, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about EUR30 billion, making Siemens one of the world's largest suppliers of ecofriendly technologies. In the same period, our products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 320 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of Berlin, Delhi, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo.
