Metso and Turbine Services Ltd. (TSL) have entered into a supply agreement according to which the Metso DNA Turbine Automation system can be used on all future projects where TSL supplies turbine components and other materials.

"This service partnership is significant for the owners and operators of industrial gas turbines, as it will provide the most up-to-date turbine control solution available that can be combined with any manufacturers' turbine technical know-how, support and services," says Juha-Pekka Jalkanen, Director, Plant Performance Solutions, Automation, Metso.

Turbine Services Ltd., based in Glasgow, Scotland, is a global maintenance services provider for original equipment manufacturers' industrial gas turbines. "Our strong capabilities complement Metso's control application expertise, forming a unique service solution for industrial gas turbine owners and operators," says Graham Taylor, General Manager, Turbine Services. "Metso's wide global sales network complements our global presence - and will benefit customers worldwide."

All for better gas turbine performance

Metso offers a total concept for steam, gas and hydro turbine controllers, including machine monitoring, information management and the possibility to integrate them into a plant-wide distributed control system. Having engineering tools in the control system creates a deeper view into the process.

Its concept includes many powerful benefits, one of which is the possibility to perform an online IO exchange on a running control system and machine without jeopardizing the operation of the unit. This saves on downtime costs and lost production while boosting revenues. Other advantages include remote access by Metso specialists for online analysis and support. Metso supports its control systems for at least 25 years and provides them with new software that communicates with the existing system without any need to redesign or re-engineer.

"Our gas turbine control solution is more open, more comprehensive and more expandable than other solutions on the market today. For the end customer - the gas turbine owner or operator - this means better gas turbine performance," says Jalkanen.

The companies intend to work together to identify new sales opportunities for the products.
