To cultivate greater awareness about World Forest Day (March 21), World Water Day (March 22), and the sustainable management of forest and water resources, Mondi has launched an online site that features a short trivia question and offers prizes for participating.

From March 20 until March 31, Mondi will host an online microsite (www.mondigroup.com/waterday) and will be giving away reusable stainless steel water bottles and backpacks to remind visitors to get back to nature in recognition of World Forest Day and World Water Day. The concept of World Forest Day originated at the 23rd General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture in 1971 as a means of increasing public awareness of the global importance of forests. Similarly, World Water Day stems from the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) and underscores the need for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

Mondi’s latest online initiative is part of the company’s efforts to draw attention to the global importance of water and forests. “As a major player in the pulp and paper industry, sustainability is a key priority for Mondi. In this sector, we are reliant on forest and water resources. These are also areas where our actions and choices can make a very positive impact. Together with air emission reduction, the responsible management of forests and water consumption is the driving force behind our Green Range of sustainably produced papers,” explains Johannes Klumpp, marketing and sales director for Uncoated Fine Paper.

Mondi’s approach to sustainable production is emphasised in the company’s Green Range of uncoated fine papers, which also acts a platform that highlights the company’s green initiatives and achievements. All Mondi papers now meet the Green Range criteria and are produced using FSC® or PEFC™ certified pulp or wood from responsibly managed forests, pulp that is bleached totally chlorine free (TCF), or 100% recycled fibres. Most recently Mondi’s 100% recycled paper NAUTILUS® SuperWhite received the rating “excellent” on the WWF’s Paper Scorecard ─ a benchmarking tool that ranks the most responsible paper products available on the market.

At the Mondi World Forest Day and World Water Day microsite (www.mondigroup.com/waterday), after answering a short trivia question, visitors can select their prize of choice: the stainless steel water bottle or the backpack. The microsite will remain online until March 31, 2012 with prizes available while supplies last.
