Mondi Green 173The international packaging and paper group Mondi is launching a new campaign, “Our inspiration: nature’s brilliant colours”, which ideally links Color Copy’s outstanding colour reproduction and Mondi's commitment to sustainable development: From 1 September to 15 November 2015 Mondi is hosting a photo competition, in which participants are invited to upload their best wildlife pictures and share how they have captured nature’s brilliant colours.

“Color Copy’s excellent colour reproduction makes it possible to have those brilliant pictures and memories not only in our minds, but to also capture them on printed paper to share with others and for posterity. Our new campaign is about emphasising Color Copy’s unrivalled colour reproduction as well as our commitment to sustainability, each and every day,” says Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director for Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper, Europe and International.

Photo Contest – capture nature’s brilliant colours

Exotic fish in the ocean, amphibians with vivid colour markings to ward off predators or the radiant wings of a butterfly are just a few examples of the mesmerising colours and patterns found in nature that serve as inspiration for graphic designers everywhere.

The ten best photographs in the Color Copy contest, chosen via public voting on the online platform, will be awarded prizes. A professional jury will select the winner out of the top ten finalists, whose photograph will also be part of the new Color Copy campaign “Our inspiration: Nature’s brilliant colours.” The first prize is a guided photo-safari for two persons to South Africa, one of the world’s most fascinating natural landscapes and home of the Mondi Group.

One brand - a wide array of applications

Introduced in 1989, Color Copy was the first paper worldwide to be specially designed for use in digital colour laser systems and is still today the number one colour laser brand.[1] The FSC®-certified and CO2 neutral paper has set the benchmark for brilliant printing results, especially when it comes to vibrant colour reproduction and proven runnability, providing maximum machine productivity and cost savings with regards to maintenance and servicing.

The colour gamut – making colours come to life

Realistic photo printouts depend on various factors, such as the printing technology, press, amount and type of ink/dry toner and of course paper. Buyers Lab (BLI), the industry’s leading independent research authority, tested Color Copy on a total of 11 different printing devices. “In reality there are billions of colours visible to the eye,” said BLI’s European Laboratory Manager, Martin Soane. “The printing industry traditionally mixes cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) to reproduce these. Depending on the printing device and paper type, there are limitations when it comes to the reproduction of accurate colours – called the colour gamut. In BLI’s test, Mondi’s Color Copy paper delivered very good gloss and density results on 11 different laser and inkjet printing devices and achieved an outstanding colour gamut throughout the test,” he added.

Sustainable – every day

Color Copy was the world’s first CO2 neutral colour laser paper and the entire portfolio is FSC®-certified and thus part of the Mondi Green Range. Sustainability is a fundamental pillar of Mondi’s corporate strategy, with continuous efforts made to further improve the environmental profiles of products and processes. The company’s commitment is underpinned by close collaborations with NGOs such as WWF International, Silver Taiga in Russia and Wessa in South Africa. Its paper products are certified to numerous renowned certifications: FSC®, PEFC™, EU Ecolabel, Blue Angel, Austrian Ecolabel, and ISEGA.

Extended high-speed inkjet paper portfolio presented

Mondi is offering a sneak preview of new high-speed inkjet products at Hunkeler Innovation Days 2015 at Hall1, Info 14

Mondi, the international packaging and paper Group, is attending the Hunkeler Innovation Days in Lucerne from 23 – 26 February 2015, in Hall 1, Info 14. Mondi has developed one of the deepest paper portfolios optimised for different high-speed inkjet presses and will be offering a sneak preview at its newest product portfolio development: NEUJET®. Mondi works closely with numerous equipment manufacturers, with Mondi’s high-speed inkjet paper being showcased during the exhibition on machines from Canon, HP, Screen, Kodak, and Xerox Impika.

“We’re excited to participate at the Hunkeler Innovation Days this year, because we’ll be offereing a sneak-peak of our newest high-speed inkjet paper, NEUJET® matte premium, NEUJET® silk and NEUJET® silk premium,” says Johannes Klumpp, Marketing & Sales Director, Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper. “The NEUJET® portfolio is Mondi’s next generation of high-speed inkjet papers optimised for medium to heavy colour, direct mail, graphic arts and book printing applications,” says Klumpp.

i01549 rz Mondi Logo Neujet neutral

Visitors to the Mondi stand will receive print-outs of the new NEUJET® papers printed on a Canon ColorStream (dye and pigment ink), Fujifilm Jet Press 540W, HP Web Press. The NEUJET® portfolio enables printers to utilise the benefits of high-speed inkjet printing – individualisation at a higher productivity than laser printing–, making it possible to create new print applications previously reserved for offset printing.

“The NEUJET® portfolio is offered in two quality levels, standard and premium, and two surface finishes, matte and silk, closing the gap to coated offset printing. So printers can benefit from excellent print quality, colour brilliance and gloss,” concludes Klumpp.

Mondi has one of the most diverse high-speed inkjet portfolios on the market. NEUJET® has specifically been developed in line with the newest trends on the market and is designed for direct mail, full colour book printing and graphic art printing. The NEUJET® portfolio supports a wide range of dye and pigment inks on the market, with the NEUJET® silk paper grade shown also optimised for Canon pigment ink.

“We are very excited to be part of the development process of NEUJET® matte premium. Villaggio Grafica is always looking to enter new market segments with the Canon ColorStream series with dye ink. Thanks to its large colour gamut and accurate colour reproduction, we believe that NEUJET® matte premium enables us to do so,” says Alcide Simonetto, General Manager and R&D Director, Villaggio Grafica.

The NEUJET® premium portfolio stands for the highest colour gamut in the Mondi portfolio, excellent opacity and is ideal for handling heavy ink loads. NEUJET® offers the printer two quality levels, standard and premium, and two surface finishes, matte and silk, closing the gap to coated offset printing. So printers can choose from various print qualities and gloss levels to meet their versatile printing needs.

“NEUJET® silk premium is a silky inkjet paper which delivers both very high print quality and runnability on our HP Web Press T series, allowing us to benefit from the full productivity of our machine. Innovation is really important to us, so we are fascinated by the new printing applications possible with this product and looking forward to working with Mondi,” explains Jeroen Hoving, Team Lead Back Office, Lijnco.

In Hall 1, Info 14 Mondi will show its full portfolio of high-speed inkjet papers, including the 230 g/m² solution of the NEUJET® matte grade for high quality direct mail & postcards, as well as its fully treated DNS® high-speed inkjet NF (natural feel) and DNS® high-speed inkjet CF (coated feel) in 60 g/m² and 70 g/m² respectively. These papers offer high colour reproduction in lower basis weights. This makes them ideally suited for book and transactional work. At the same time all papers minimise ink load, which ensures smooth post finishing and cost optimisation.

Mondi's high-speed inkjet papers are part of the company's Green Range of eco-conscious papers. All Mondi Green Range papers are FSC® or PEFC™ certified, or 100% recycled or bleached TCF (totally chlorine free). Reflecting the growing demand for CO2 offsetting within the printing industry, Mondi also offers a CO2 neutral option for all high-speed inkjet papers.

Construction on the recovery boiler began in 2013 as part of a EUR 128 million investment to increase green electricity production and improve the mill’s overall cost position, while reducing the mill’s environmental footprint.

2014-11-13 065523International packaging and paper group Mondi held a ceremony to celebrate the start-up of a new recovery boiler at Mondi SCP, the company’s operation in Ružomberok, Slovakia. The opening ceremony took place on-site at Mondi SCP, where Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico joined fellow members of government, the project’s main suppliers, and representatives from owners Mondi Group and ECO-INVEST— the Slovak industrial and investment holding.

The new recovery boiler (RB3) has replaced recovery boiler 1, marking a further step in the mill’s development to ensure the successful continuation of the mill’s 134 year old tradition of paper making in the region. According to Mondi Group CEO David Hathorn, the start-up of the new recovery boiler will enable more eco-efficient means of increasing the production of pulp at the mill. “Wherever economically and environmentally feasible, Mondi promotes resource efficiency by using innovative technologies and making continuous improvements. In line with this approach, we have committed over €430 million to green energy related projects between 2011 and 2016. RB3 is one of these projects and for us investing in green energy makes good business sense,” said Mr. Hathorn.

A key part of Mondi SCP’s energy efficiency and environmental protection programme, the recovery boiler 3 is part of a broader investment that includes a new turbine, an extended and modernised evaporation plant, and a new lime kiln. Together, these enhancements will also enable the mill to be 100% energy self-sufficient, with 94% of its energy coming from renewable resources.

“Over the past 10 years, the shareholders have invested more than €350 million in Mondi SCP to drive innovative production and operational improvements at the mill. With the new recovery boiler, we are able to produce more pulp with greater efficiency. The new equipment will also lead to a better cost position for our products produced in Ružomberok, making Mondi SCP more competitive in the long term,” explained Peter Orisich, CEO Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

“We want to thank the Slovak government for creating an attractive investment environment for international corporations and Slovak investment holdings. This investment brings returns for all involved,” says Miloslav Čurilla, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mondi SCP.

The project involved 3300 workers, with up to 500 people on site during the peak construction season this spring. 69% of all workers involved in the project were Slovakian nationals.

“The new recovery boiler is a positive step for our continuing presence in the region,” commented Mondi SCP’s Managing Director, Roman Senecky. “Mondi SCP has earned a reputation for sustainable paper production and we are proud to build on that with this investment. In the last year we have worked closely together with the government, our suppliers and partners to bring this project to fruition. We now have the technology to match our expertise – these are important keys to our future.”

The trial operation for the new recovery boiler began on 2 October when the new equipment was successfully tested.  The start-up phase has taken place on time and in budget.

Mondi SCP is the largest integrated pulp and paper mill in Slovakia, with a production capacity of 560,000 tonnes of uncoated fine paper, 66,000 tonnes of packaging paper and 100,000 tonnes of market pulp annually. Mondi SCP is the recipient of PPI awards for its Supply Chain (2013), Managing Risk and Safety (2012), Efficiency Improvements of the Year (2012), and Environmental Strategy of the Year (2010). The mill produces well-known brands such as MAESTRO® PRINT, DNS® performance and several IQ and MAESTRO office papers.

Consistent quality of NAUTILUS® SuperWhite and NAUTILUS® ReFresh externally verified

2014-10-06 213047 mondi labelMondi’s recycled brands NAUTILUS® SuperWhite and NAUTILUS® ReFresh have been awarded with the Buyer’s Lab (BLI) performance certification based on independent testing across numerous digital imaging devices.  Buyer’s Lab (BLI), the leading global independent office products test lab and business consumer advocate, tested the NAUTILUS® papers on a total of 15 different office document imaging devices (including copiers, printers, fax machines and multifunctional products) representing Canon, Epson, Kyosera, Ricoh and Brother and evaluated the results based on paper dust, runnability (curl, double-sheeting and misfeeds), image performance, packaging and cut defects. According to the certificates awarded, both NAUTILUS® brands have proven to be highly reliable, with excellent performance related to image quality, dusting and curl.

“I can confirm that both Mondi papers - NAUTILUS® ReFresh and NAUTILUS® SuperWhite - have been awarded BLI’s Performance Certification, which means that it has delivered very good results across a wide range of devices and brands in BLI’s testing program,” says David Sweetnam, Head of European Research and Lab Services.

Beyond awarding the performance certification of NAUTILUS®, BLI has also chosen to use the NAUTILUS® brands for its ongoing lab testing. “All of BLI’s Environmental Testing on a wide range of imaging devices is conducted with Mondi NAUTILUS® Refresh Triotec 30% and NAUTILUS® SuperWhite 100% recycled papers, both of which are quality-grade recycled multipurpose papers. A number of other Mondi media types, including NAUTILUS® SuperWhite are also used in BLI’s Public and Custom testing, and they have always delivered outstanding quality and reliability,” confirms Dr. Simon Plumtree, European Managing Editor.

“Having purchased NAUTILUS® recycled paper from Mondi for several years now, I have to say that the consistent quality performance of the brand is excellent. We’re satisfied and more importantly, our customers are satisfied. Can’t ask for more,” says Hanspeter Albrecht, Head of Marketing, Berberich Papier, sharing a customer perspective.

“We were thrilled to receive the external verification of our high quality recycled NAUTILUS® papers. It is one thing if we say we produce excellent recycled papers, but another thing entirely if an independent body and customers confirm it,” says Johannes Klumpp, Marketing & Sales Director, Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper. “The clear benefits for users – less machine wear and reduced maintenance costs – are combined with an excellent eco-profile and externally verified. So there are no compromises between quality and environmental benefits. It doesn’t get any better than that,” concludes Klumpp.

btop3The International packaging and paper manufacturer Mondi introduced BIO TOP 3® twenty five years ago and in recognition of the long-term performance of its unique off-white, TCF brand is now offering BIO TOP 3® 80 g/m² in a CO2 neutral version to further strengthen the paper’s exceptional environmental credentials.

First developed as office paper, then as a hybrid paper for offset printing and now also available for high-speed inkjet applications, BIO TOP 3® has kept pace with market developments. BIO TOP 3® was developed in Mondi Neusiedler in 1989. At the time of its ground breaking launch, it was the world’s first TCF paper on the market and continues to be produced totally chlorine free and without any optical brightening agents (OBAs) today. As a result the paper retains a natural uncoated feel with an off-white shade.

“In the meantime we believe it is not a shade but an attitude – towards more: More versatility for different applications, more environmental requirements, better colour reproduction and more impact with printed products. That is the secret behind BIO TOP 3®’s enduring success on the market,” said Johannes Klumpp, Marketing & Sales Director, Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

BIO TOP 3® is also EU Ecolabel and Austrian Environmental Label certified, with a Life Cycle Assessment and bears Mondi’s Green Range label for sustainably produced products. It is suitable for digital, preprint and offset applications. With the launch of the BIO TOP 3® LOOKBOOK, Mondi’s high-end marketing tool showcasing the power of paper to complement good design, BIO TOP 3® is positioned primarily for premium catalogues, corporate design & sustainability reports, and premium books. As in recent years, Mondi has chosen BIO TOP 3® for the printing of its sustainability report, Sharing our sustainable future 2013, which is available upon request or online under www.mondigroup.com/sustainability. This positioning document provides an insight into what sustainable development means to Mondi within a global context.

“I often get asked to recommend a sustainable paper and when I do I always say BIO TOP 3®,” says Angie Rattay, founder of the charity platform NEONGREEN NETWORK and the annual EARTHtalks held in the Hofburg. “It is also the paper I chose for the Earth Talks programmes again this year.”

“The absolute USP of BIO TOP 3® is the appearance of the print. Customers, who want to have both a stylish and sustainable look, are right on track with BIO TOP 3®,” says Ad Ekelschot, Manager Komori Graphic Center Europe. “The smoothness and evenness of the surface of BIO TOP 3®, in combination with Komori’s H-UV curing system, gives the print a unique, realistic and sharp image. Besides that after the printing process “powdering” is not necessary – in contradiction with traditional offset printing; the prints are instantly dry and therefore the concept of ‘print, finish and supply’ is another USP,” adds Ekelschot.

Mondi’s innovative BIO TOP 3® LOOKBOOK, an art and design catalogue launched in 2013 to showcase the potential of BIO TOP 3®, was recognized with the Golden Pixel Award 2013 and the Printissimo 2013 awards.

“Be it a limited edition artistic screen print by Perfekt Prints or the latest Triumph Essence autumn/winter dessous catalogue, with BIO TOP 3® we are in touch every day with our customers – and that since 25 years, ” concludes Klumpp.

“North Print and Pack is a good opportunity for Mondi to speak directly with printers about their digital printing needs and most frequent applications. We also look forward to introducing to the UK printing market some of our more recent product developments such as DNS® color print,” commented Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director for Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper, Europe & International.

Mondi launched DNS® color print in autumn of 2012, offering customers an extra smooth paper with a high whiteness level (170 CIE). The paper’s smooth finish combined with its high opacity is ideal for full colour reproduction with duplex printing. With a range of grammages from 80-300 g/m2 in A4, A3 (LG/SG) and SRA3 formats, versatility is a prime benefit for printers handling diverse applications from marketing collateral to invitations to business cards. DNS® color print is also suitable for preprint applications such as letterhead and office stationery.

Amongst Mondi’s digital printing papers on display at Northprint, Color Copy and 100% recycled NAUTILUS® SuperWhite will feature prominently. Color Copy has earned its high-quality reputation in part due to a smooth surface and whiteness level, which are ideal for full colour image reproduction and natural looking contrasts. Moreover, Color Copy is fully CO2 neutral, from cradle to Mondi factory gate. Mondi also offers customers a CO2 neutral option for 100% recycled NAUTILUS® SuperWhite and its high-speed inkjet papers. All Mondi-branded papers are sustainably produced and belong to the Green Range of papers that are FSC® or PEFC™ certified, 100% recycled or totally chlorine free bleached (TCF).

Overall the company’s digital printing portfolio has expanded to accommodate new developments in machine technology and printing trends, making it a versatile portfolio for applications that range from photo books, marketing flyers and brochures, catalogues, digital publishing, Transpromo and personalised direct mail.

The company will promote the new design with a Russia-wide campaign from March to May 2013 to introduce the new packaging to end users, dealers and distributors at all levels.
Russia’s office paper market will soon see a new look to a familiar brand. Mondi Syktyvkar has launched a new packaging design for its popular domestic brand Snegurochka.

Snegurochka paper optSnegurochka is Russia’s leading office paper brand recognised for its high whiteness level, smooth surface, good opacity for double sided printing and excellent printer runnability. It is also the first Russian-produced FSC® certified paper.

“Snegurochka’s new packing design reflects the paper’s high-quality profile and strong position in the Russian market. It’s an up-to-date design that clearly displays Snegurochka’s environmental labels, grammage, format and key details that our customers look for,” said Alexey Shamin, Head of Sales for Russia & CIS, Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

The Snegurochka brand was first developed at Mondi Syktyvkar in 1999. The new packaging preserves the brand’s well-known packaging features, such as the recognizable color scheme and Cyrillic brand name, though it is now written in a more contemporary style. The paper’s technical characteristics will also remain in CIS languages. Among the changes to the packaging design, the brand’s environmental profile will feature more prominently.

In addition to being FSC® certified and part of Mondi’s Green Range, Snegurochka was awarded the EU Ecolabel in 2012. Products and services bearing the EU Ecolabel are certified as having a lower impact on the environment than other products in the same product group. It is a means by which customers choose products deemed environmentally conscious based on core environmental parameters.

Moreover, Snegurochka received a rating of “good” on the WWF Check Your Paper environmental benchmarking tool -- a voluntary initiative which encourages transparency regarding environmental performance in the paper industry and identifies sustainably produced papers on a global scale.

All Mondi branded paper are part of the Green Range and are FSC® or PECF certified, totally chlorine free bleached (TCF) or 100% recycled. More information about Snegurochka and Mondi Syktyvkar is available at www.mondigroup.com/syktyvkar
