Illustri Festival 2019 will be held in Vicenza from May 18th to June 23rd, with the collaboration of Burgo Group which will present its project Cartaceo#01, Paper: a never-ending material.

After the success of  BookCity  Milano 2018, the illustrations of  Emiliano Ponzi and the storytelling of Gabriella Greison arrive in Vicenza to tell us a story about the paper as an never-ending material, a material with endless possibilities, born form a machine that seems to never end, which throughout human history has taken our dreams and stories and propelled them into the future in a never-ending exchange, transforming over and again into new and different products.

The exhibition inside the  Basilica Palladiana (Sala degli Zavatteri), curated by  Francesco Poroli, reproduces the unfolding  of a leporello, the paper object created by the collaboration between Ponzi and Greison, while the animations curated by Emiliano Ponzi run on a monitor togegher with the reading of the story Paper: a never-ending material.

The opening of all the exhibitions is scheduled for Saturday, May 18th from 10.00 am. The complete program and contents of the exhibitions are available at the following link:

Paper as a key vehicle for spreading ideas, this is the message behind the ideal partnership between the Group and the art of Illustration.  This synergy began in 1997 with the unique vision of the man flying with paper wings by Jean Michel Folon, it traveled across different countries and continents and investigated many visual art techniques, and arrived nowadays with the freshness of the watercolors of a young American illustrator, Ping Zhu.

To celebrate such a significant event Burgo made an artbook, Burgo Collection 1997 -2017, curated by Francesco Poroli and printed on Burgo coated paper R4 Next satin. The book will be  featured  on    May 31st, in association with Illustri Festival. Robert Newman, a famous American art director who signed the introductory text, will attend the event which is part of the extensive program of Illustri Festival 2017, the third edition of the two-year festival of illustration; a whole month of meetings, workshops and eight great exhibitions which will animate the most prestigious monuments in the city and will involve more than ninety illustrators.

2014-12-11 071109"Progetto Toscolano 1831: a paper, a story, a future", a project of the Paper Mills Valley Foundation with the support of the City of Toscolano, is one of the eight projects selected among nearly 500 applications submitted in response to the competition notice "Invisible Assets: places and masteries of craft traditions" organized by the Telecom Italia Foundation in 2013.

The project was presented on November 27th during a press conference in the Burgo paper mill in Toscolano Maderno (Italy) by the project manager Filippo Cantoni and it takes advantage of some prestigious partnerships: the Paper Museum of Fabriano, the Italian Calligraphy Association and the Academy of Fine Arts "Santa Giulia" of Brescia.

A real start-up making paper craft products drawing on the centuries-old papermaking tradition of Toscolano the technique and skills of master papermakers, but it speaks the up-to-date language of the net and interacts with new technologies: an e-commerce portal in 6 languages (European and Asian idioms), an App on Papermaking Museums, interactive catalogs and video-photo contest.

Three steps will take place over 18 months. In the first step they’ll collect tutorials and trainings and organize the knowledge of the paper masters; in the second step the School of papermaking will begin its courses, which aim to train young papermakers (but also bookbinders and specialists in calligraphy) and to resume the handmade paper production in the former paper mill of Maina Inferiore; the third step will be devoted to the promotion and sale of the paper products.

An ideal passing on the baton between generations because, after seven centuries, paper comes back to create jobs and business in the ancient Paper Mills Valley.

burgo logoThe Burgo Group plant in Toscolano Maderno (BS) has achieved UNI EN 15593:2008 certification for “Management of hygiene in the production of packaging for foodstuffs”.

The Toscolano paper mill is now able to guarantee, with the seal of approval of an external certification agency SGS: that its products conform to the legal requirements applicable for food safety; the possibility of accessing markets where this standard is adopted as a selection criterion for packaging suppliers; the protection of the image of those who market food products.

2014-10-22 071053 burgoThe quality on the management systems applied by the Toscolano paper mill complies with the implementation of good manufacturing practices (GMP) in the production of materials that come into contact with foods. European UNI EN 15593 standard is based on the analysis and evaluation of the risks connected to potential contamination of a product at all stages of its production, including the personnel, the premises and equipment, the manufacture and supporting documentation.

This major achievement guarantee the safety of a food for the consumer’s benefit, all along the chain, from the producer to the person marketing it; it comes after the certification obtained by the Treviso mill (in Mignagola di Carbonera) in 2010, the first Italian paper mill to have achieved UNI EN 15593:2008, and by Chiampo mill (in Vicenza) in 2011.

The range of specialty papers produced by the Toscolano mill has been recently developed and it offers a wide choice of one-side coated papers for labels and packaging designed for the food and beverage industry, alongside the traditional production of two- sides coated woodfree papers for the publishing market.
