Innovative Testing Equipment for the Corrugated Board Industry
Emtec Electronic attends the Corrugated Week in Indianapolis, USA
For the first time, emtec Electronic GmbH will attend the Corrugated Week in Indianapolis, USA from September 24th to 27th 2018, together with its US representative Technidyne Corporation. At exhibition booth no. 848 the company will present innovative testing instruments for the corrugated board industry.
The special EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester determines those surface parameters of paper and board, which are relevant for the converting process, in particular the surface sizing / hydrophobicity and surface porosity. With its help, converting properties, such as printability, gluability, coatability and dusting tendency can be predicted. It enables the optimal runnability during the finishing or converting process of paper/board. An according modular system PDA.C02 Penetration Dynamics Analyzer for more applications is available.
Alongside with the EST12, emtec will have the CAS touch! and FPA touch! on display. These instruments represent the most-modern charge measuring systems for the wet-end in paper and board production and are used to measure the interaction between particles or fibers with additives and process chemicals in the pulp suspension. The use of both instruments in the production process helps to optimize the utilization of chemicals with the objective to stabilize the process, to improve the product quality and to reduce cost.
The new measuring method to measure the mineral filler content of the ACA Ash Content Analyzer, is nondestructive, quick, easy and accurate. Typical mineral filler and pigment content in paper and board, such as calcium carbonate, kaolin/ talcum, titanium dioxide, and the total mineral filler content in percent are determined. It enables optimal process control due to instant availability of measuring results, and helps to narrow down the specifications for the filler content in the finished product and therefore to optimize the consumption of fillers.
Additionally, emtec Electronic will inform about its DSS Dimension Stability System, a modular measuring system for the investigation of the dimension stability of paper, board and foils in one-sided contact with temperature or liquids. The WSD module Wet Stretch Dynamics Analyzer measures the dynamics of the change in dimension of paper under one- sided liquid contact. And the HSA module Heat Shrinkage Analyzer predicts the dimension stability of paper, board and foils in contact with high temperature during the converting process.

emtec Electronic at RosUpack 2015
Innovative Tools to Optimize Production and Converting Processes
emtec Electronic looks back to a successful exhibition week at the RosUpack 2015
The company emtec Electronic GmbH attended the Russian „RosUpack 2015“ in June in Moscow. In the red emtec corner in hall 2 of the exhibition, visitors were able to talk to specialists from emtec in Germany and from the representative company Sigma Micron in Russia. In particular, producers and converters of paper and board as well as suppliers of chemicals, glue, coating color, printing ink, but also institutes can indeed be very well supported by the emtec measuring instruments.
In the converting process of paper and board sometimes problems occur in the gluing, coating and printing process, but the reason is unclear, as the specifications are according to standard testing instruments. Nobody knows if it is due to the quality of the paper or the glue, coating color or printing ink.
The company emtec developed a method to find out the reason. In Moscow one of the solutions was presented - the EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester. In order to predict the interaction between paper or board and the liquid during coating, printing and gluing, the device characterizes the surface parameters of paper and board, which are relevant for the converting process, in the process-relevant time. Its application leads to the optimization of the production and converting processes and therefore to reducing the costs and achieving respectively improving the quality of the product.
Problems in the quality of the finished product can also be caused by non-optimal process control in the wet end area of paper and board production. emtec Electronic has presented two essential measuring devices for the optimization of wet end area: the CAS Charge Analyzing System for determining the particle charge and the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer for measuring the Zeta Potential of fibers in the suspension. Both help to guarantee and improve the targeted properties of finished products and to reduce the consumption of chemicals.
emtec at CIDPEX 2015 in China
Process Optimization in the Tissue and Nonwoven Industry
emtec Electronic at the CIDPEX 2015 in Shenzhen, China
emtec Electronic GmbH will participate at the “CIDPEX 2015” China International Disposable Paper Expo in Shenzhen, Guangdong in China from May 25th until 27th. The company will present different testing instruments at the exhibition booth no. 1R39M – together with Shanghai Forest & Paper Scientific Instrument – its representative for China.
By the application of the different testing instruments the complete production process from the pulp to the finished product can be controlled and guided in the right direction to get an efficient process and the best possible quality with the lowest possible cost.
In the wet end it is extremely important to have detailed information about the charges of particles in the pulp suspension, which can be determined by CAS Charge Analyzing System. Also important is the knowledge about the surface charge of the pulp fibers, which can be measured with the FPA – Fiber Potential Analyzer. Furthermore, emtec Electronic developed a new Online measuring device FPO – Fiber Zeta Potential Analyzer Online, which measures the Zeta Potential of fibers directly during the production process and delivers immediately reliable and necessary information concerning the dosing of chemicals to the pulp.
In the case of tissue and nonwoven production it is necessary to get an idea of the quality of base product after production and of finished products after converting. This can be realized by the TSA – Tissue Softness Analyzer, which gives reliable and objective information about the real softness, smoothness/ roughness, stiffness as well as the final hand feeling. The availability of these three parameters opens a huge amount of chances for the optimization of the tissue and nonwoven production and converting processes.
On Monday, 25th May at 3.40 pm, Mr. Alexander Gruener will explain all the possibilities to obtain an efficient production and converting process with the application of these devices in his presentation “Process Optimization from the Wet to the Dry End of the Tissue Production Process”.

Also important is the knowledge about the surface charge of the pulp fibers, which can be measured with the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer. Furthermore, emtec Electronic developed a new Online measuring device FPO Fiber Zeta Potential Analyzer Online, which measures the Zeta Potential of fibers directly in the process and delivers reliable and necessary information concerning the efficiency of chemicals in the process immediately.
In addition to the wet end, it is necessary to get an idea of the quality of the base paper after the production and of the finished product after converting. The EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester is one of the equipment for determining important paper surface properties such as hydrophoby and sizing as well as the porosity and pore structure, which have influences on the printability, coatability, and glueability.
Especially for tissue and nonwoven products, the TSA Tissue Softness Analyzer gives reliable and objective information about the real softness, smoothness/roughness, stiffness as well as the final hand feeling.
Another innovative device is one of the latest developments: the ACA Ash Content Analyzer. It allows the fast and accurate determination of the total mineral filler content as well as the percentage content of the individual filler components of paper and board. It is a useful alternative to the traditional combustion method.
