For the 15th time, the international exhibition PAP-FOR 2018 will take place in St. Petersburg, Russia from November 13th to 16th. The German company emtec Electronic GmbH will attend together with the Russian representative Sigma Micron International Ltd. An interesting selection of their innovative testing instruments for the pulp, paper, tissue, converting and packaging industry is shown at booth no. E39 in pavilion F.
The latest innovation, the ACA Ash Content Analyzer enables the determination of the mineral filler content of a paper or board within seconds and without combustion, that means without destruction of the samples. Both, the total mineral filler content, as well as the individual filler components (e.g. calcium carbonate, kaolin/talcum, titanium dioxide, iron oxide) and their percentage distribution are measured.
Besides this, the well-known EST12 emtec Surface & Sizing
Tester will be displayed at the booth. This device is used to determine important paper surface properties such as surface hydrophobia / sizing as well as the surface porosity, which influence printability, coatability and gluability of paper and board.
Especially for tissue and nonwoven products, the TSA Tissue Softness Analyzer gives reliable and objective information about the three basic parameters, which determine the human feeling, the softness, roughness and stiffness. From these three, an overall hand feel value can be calculated. The availability of the three individual parameters opens a huge amount of chances for the optimization of the tissue production and converting processes.
Furthermore, the smallest and lightest state-of-the-art devices for the wet-end are presented in St. Petersburg. The CAS touch! measures the particle charge and the FPA touch! measures the surface charge of fibers (zeta potential). Both devices help to get information about the efficiency of the chemicals, which are added during the paper, board and tissue production.
As every year, emtec Electronic will attend the ABTCP in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The exhibition takes place from October 23rd to 25th. The German producer of innovative lab and online testing equipment can be found at booth no. 137/138 together with its Brazilian representative Elof Hansson.
Emtec will present the state-of-the-art charge measuring systems CAS touch! and FPA touch! Both devices are used to optimize the wet-end process, by measuring the interaction between particles or fibers with additives and process chemicals in the pulp suspension. The use of both instruments in the production process helps to optimize the utilization of chemicals with the target to stabilize the process, to improve the product quality and to reduce costs. Another device that can be used in the wet-end of the tissue and paper production is the DFA – Dynamic Filtration Analyzer, which helps to determine the influence of chemicals on drainage and retention behavior.
But, also producers of base and final products will find innovative measurement equipment at the booth: the well-known TSA – Tissue Softness Analyzer which is used to reliably assess the Softness, Smoothness/Roughness and Stiffness as well as the overall Hand Feel of tissue and nonwoven materials. Additionally, the EST – Surface & Sizing Tester is shown. The EST is a useful tool to determine important paper surface properties such as surface hydrophobia / sizing as well as the surface porosity, which influence printability, coatability and gluability of paper and board.
Emtec Electronic attends the Corrugated Week in Indianapolis, USA
For the first time, emtec Electronic GmbH will attend the Corrugated Week in Indianapolis, USA from September 24th to 27th 2018, together with its US representative Technidyne Corporation. At exhibition booth no. 848 the company will present innovative testing instruments for the corrugated board industry.
The special EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester determines those surface parameters of paper and board, which are relevant for the converting process, in particular the surface sizing / hydrophobicity and surface porosity. With its help, converting properties, such as printability, gluability, coatability and dusting tendency can be predicted. It enables the optimal runnability during the finishing or converting process of paper/board. An according modular system PDA.C02 Penetration Dynamics Analyzer for more applications is available.
Alongside with the EST12, emtec will have the CAS touch! and FPA touch! on display. These instruments represent the most-modern charge measuring systems for the wet-end in paper and board production and are used to measure the interaction between particles or fibers with additives and process chemicals in the pulp suspension. The use of both instruments in the production process helps to optimize the utilization of chemicals with the objective to stabilize the process, to improve the product quality and to reduce cost.
The new measuring method to measure the mineral filler content of the ACA Ash Content Analyzer, is nondestructive, quick, easy and accurate. Typical mineral filler and pigment content in paper and board, such as calcium carbonate, kaolin/ talcum, titanium dioxide, and the total mineral filler content in percent are determined. It enables optimal process control due to instant availability of measuring results, and helps to narrow down the specifications for the filler content in the finished product and therefore to optimize the consumption of fillers.
Additionally, emtec Electronic will inform about its DSS Dimension Stability System, a modular measuring system for the investigation of the dimension stability of paper, board and foils in one-sided contact with temperature or liquids. The WSD module Wet Stretch Dynamics Analyzer measures the dynamics of the change in dimension of paper under one- sided liquid contact. And the HSA module Heat Shrinkage Analyzer predicts the dimension stability of paper, board and foils in contact with high temperature during the converting process.
Just like two years ago, Emtec will attend the Tissue World Trade Show and Conference to be held at Istanbul Congress Center in September 2018. The German producer of innovative laboratory and online testing machines will be based on floor B5 at booth no. D171 together with its Turkish representative LABTEK.
Centerpiece of the booth will be the well-known TSA – Tissue Softness Analyzer which is used to reliably assess the Softness, Smoothness/Roughness and Stiffness as well as the overall Hand Feel of tissue and nonwoven materials.
Alongside with the TSA, Emtec will have the CAS touch! and FPA touch! on display. These instruments represent the most-modern charge measuring systems for the wet-end in tissue and paper production and are used to measure the interaction between particles or fibers with additives and process chemicals in the pulp suspension. The use of both instruments in the production process helps to optimize the utilization of chemicals with the objective to stabilize the process, to improve the product quality and to reduce cost.

Innovative Tools to Optimize Production and Converting Processes
emtec Electronic looks back to a successful exhibition week at the RosUpack 2015
The company emtec Electronic GmbH attended the Russian „RosUpack 2015“ in June in Moscow. In the red emtec corner in hall 2 of the exhibition, visitors were able to talk to specialists from emtec in Germany and from the representative company Sigma Micron in Russia. In particular, producers and converters of paper and board as well as suppliers of chemicals, glue, coating color, printing ink, but also institutes can indeed be very well supported by the emtec measuring instruments.
In the converting process of paper and board sometimes problems occur in the gluing, coating and printing process, but the reason is unclear, as the specifications are according to standard testing instruments. Nobody knows if it is due to the quality of the paper or the glue, coating color or printing ink.
The company emtec developed a method to find out the reason. In Moscow one of the solutions was presented - the EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester. In order to predict the interaction between paper or board and the liquid during coating, printing and gluing, the device characterizes the surface parameters of paper and board, which are relevant for the converting process, in the process-relevant time. Its application leads to the optimization of the production and converting processes and therefore to reducing the costs and achieving respectively improving the quality of the product.
Problems in the quality of the finished product can also be caused by non-optimal process control in the wet end area of paper and board production. emtec Electronic has presented two essential measuring devices for the optimization of wet end area: the CAS Charge Analyzing System for determining the particle charge and the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer for measuring the Zeta Potential of fibers in the suspension. Both help to guarantee and improve the targeted properties of finished products and to reduce the consumption of chemicals.
Process Optimization within the Paper, Board and Tissue Production
On May 20th and 21st, emtec Electronic GmbH will participate at the “Future. Forum Paper” – the Austrian Paper Conference with trade show for pulp and paper industry in Graz.
During the two days emtec will present different testing instruments by which the process from the production of the pulp to the conversion to the finished product can be controlled and guided in the right direction to get an efficient process and the best possible quality with the lowest possible costs.
In the wet end it is extremely important to have detailed information about the charges of particles in the pulp suspension, which can be determined by the CAS Charge Analyzing System. Also important is the knowledge about the surface charge of the pulp fibers, which can be measured with the FPA Fiber Potential Analyzer. Furthermore, emtec Electronic developed a new Online measuring device FPO Fiber Zeta Potential Analyzer Online, which measures the Zeta Potential of fibers directly in the process and delivers reliable and necessary information concerning the efficiency of chemicals in the process immediately.
In addition to the wet end, it is necessary to get an idea of the quality of the base paper after the production and of the finished product after converting. The EST12 Surface & Sizing Tester is one of the equipment for determining important paper surface properties such as hydrophoby and sizing as well as the porosity and pore structure, which have influences on the printability, coatability, and glueability.
Especially for tissue and nonwoven products, the TSA Tissue Softness Analyzer gives reliable and objective information about the real softness, smoothness/roughness, stiffness as well as the final hand feeling.
Another innovative device is one of the latest developments: the ACA Ash Content Analyzer. It allows the fast and accurate determination of the total mineral filler content as well as the percentage content of the individual filler components of paper and board. It is a useful alternative to the traditional combustion method.

When Standard Methods like Cobb or Bendtsen come to their Limit
emtec Electronic and their EST12 – Surface & Sizing Tester at PaperCon 2015
This year emtec Electronic will be present at the PaperCon 2015 Exhbition and Conference with their EST12 – Surface & Sizing Tester. The company itself will have a presentation on Tuesday, 21st April at 1:14 pm. Additionally, the company Technidyne Corporation – the representative in the USA – will be present from 19th to 22nd April in Hall 2 at their booth no. 325.
The Cobb or Bendtsen tests are used to get an information about the sizing and the pore structure of paper, especially to check the quality and the processability of the paper in the converting. But it happens, that the results are the same, but one paper works and the other does not. How and why this happens will be explained by Alexander Gruener during his presentation “emtec EST12 – Surface & Sizing Tester. Where standard methods like Cobb or Bendtsen come to their limit.” He also will explain in detail the function of the emtec device EST12 and how it makes it possible to predict reliably the behavior of paper surfaces during converting processes like glueing, coating and printing by giving more detailed information about the surface sizing respectively hydrophoby, and the surface pore structure of paper and board.
With the application of the special testing equipment from emtec Electronic it is possible to control and guide the production and converting process into the right direction, in order to get an efficient process and the best possible quality with the lowest possible cost.
