New cross-range colour matching tool from Arjowiggins
Arjowiggins has launched an innovative new colour matching tool to make it simple for designers and brands to combine products from two of its complementary creative paper collections - Keaykolour and Curious Metallics.
With this new tool Arjowiggins demonstrates its command of colour creation, development and matching and reaffirms its position as the ‘International standard for colour’ in creative papers.
The new tool, designed by creative partner North, comes as a dual box set and highlights perfect colour matches, complementary colour families and the opportunities for creative combinations within the different range finishes.
The box set comprises a Keaykolour box and a Curious Metallics box, each holding a set of specially-designed loose sample cards which showcase each range in its entirety. A choice of ten box colours are available for each range. A clever die-cut design enables customers to change the top sheet to view different colour combinations, and each box in the set can also be used individually.
A selection of ten pairs of sample cards across the two ranges are printed with identical graphic designs using a variety of print techniques including embossing, foiling and offset. They showcase colour matches such as Metallics’ Electric Blue with Keaykolour’s Royal Blue, Metallics’ Magma with Keaykolour’s Chili Pepper and Metallics’ Ice Silver with Keaykolour’s Pure White.
The practical A6 size, coupled with the loose-card and die-cut format of the box sets, allows customers to explore and discover other unique colour harmonies and pairs, underlining the strength of the two palettes and Arjowiggins’ commitment to widening creative possibilities for its customers.
Jose-Anne d’Auvergne, Head of Marketing at Arjowiggins, comments: “We are constantly listening and looking to respond to the needs of our customers. To this end we have created this very practical and interactive alternative to the traditional sample book. Colour remains one of the key attributes of any creative paper and is very often the first criterion in the selection of paper for graphic printing or design. Our Keaykolour and Curious Metallics ranges exist beautifully on their own but have been carefully crafted to work harmoniously together.
“This new tool will enable customers to approach our paper ranges in a new way. The loose card format encourages customers to play with papers and colour; finding new and unexpected combinations that they may not have imagined with a traditional bound book. The new tool also uses less paper, making it a more sustainable option.”
Keaykolour is a collection of natural, wove textured, high-rigidity papers and boards in 48 sophisticated mid-tone colours, arranged in nine chromatically harmonised colour families. It also includes a choice of 100% recycled products as well as a range of 13 embossing patterns. The Curious Metallics collection brings a shimmering lustre to eight coherent families of muted and natural tints, along with a small number of resonant, contemporary colours, across a wide array of papers and boards.
The 48 colours of Keaykolour coupled with the 30 colours of Curious Metallics create a harmonious palette that reveals the power of creative combinations between the refined, natural texture of Keaykolour and the ever-so-subtle shimmer of Curious Metallics.
The new colour matching tool is available through Arjowiggins’ network of merchants and is available either as a set of two boxes or as two individual boxes.
Customers are being invited to share their favourite colour combinations on Arjowggins’ social platforms @arjocreatives on Instagram and @arjopapers on Twitter using the hashtag #myarjomixandmatch.

Mbo secures the future of Arjowiggins creative papers
The management team of leading paper manufacturer Arjowiggins Creative Papers has announced a successful management buyout of its UK operations, protecting hundreds of jobs and safeguarding two historic paper mills in Aberdeen and Kent.
The company has been trading in administration since January 2019 following insolvency proceedings against French parent companies Arjowiggins and Sequana. The business will now be led by an eight-strong experienced leadership team headed up by current managing director Jonathan Mitchell.
The management buyout covers Arjowiggins Fine Papers, which runs the group’s Stoneywood mill in Aberdeen plus an office in Basingstoke, and Arjowiggins Chartham, which operates the Chartham mill in Canterbury. Following the MBO, the new company will have 559 employees.
Both mills dates back to the 1700s. The Stoneywood mill pioneered the production of fine paper in the 1800s and now manufactures products for designers, printers and clients worldwide under well-known brands such as Conqueror, Curious Collection and Keaykolour. The Chartham mill is one of the oldest employers in the area, specialising in the production of translucent papers, in particular the Gateway range which is recognised today as the world’s leading brand of tracing paper.
Jonathan Mitchell comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured the future of a strong and sustainable business which has such a long heritage in the UK. Arjowiggins Creative Papers has world-renowned market-leading brands and products and a passionate and talented team. We are looking forward to taking steps to further strengthen the business and continue to provide first class products and customer service to our clients.
“The last nine months has been an unsettling time for the company and we are extremely grateful to the administrators, FRP Advisory, for having allowed the business to continue to trade while we found a workable solution. The support we have had from our staff, customers, suppliers and the Scottish Government has been incredible and without them this deal would not have been possible. There has been a real combined will to keep this historic business alive.”
The deal has been financed by Shawbrook Bank and SQN Asset Finance Income Fund as well as a number of strategic customers. Significant financial backing has also been received from national economic development agency Scottish Enterprise.
In Aberdeen, where 75% of employees are based, a Common Purpose Group was established by Jamie Hepburn MSP, Scottish Minister for Business, Fair Work and Skills, with a focus on securing a long-term future for the Stoneywood mill. This was led by Scottish Enterprise and included representatives of the company’s management, Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire councils, Opportunity North East, Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce and Unite.
Mr Hepburn said: “I am delighted that the future of this historic mill has now been secured through a management buyout. This is great news for the employees and their families, and indeed welcomed across Aberdeen, the Northeast and further afield.
“The Scottish Government, through Scottish Enterprise, has been working intensively with the administrator, management team, UNITE and local partners throughout this entire process to secure this positive outcome.
“The priority now is to work closely with the new owners to realise their plans for the long-term success of the business, and identify future opportunities in the sector, which ultimately benefits the local economy and wider North East economy.”
The completion of the MBO in the UK is the first in a two stage process and the management team are also in advanced discussions with French administrators on the acquisition of the company’s non-UK operations which include Spanish mill Guarro Casas and Quzhou mill in China.

Arjowiggins Graphic to Showcase the Performance of Digipeel at FESPA
Arjowiggins Graphic, the leading manufacturer of environmental and specialist paper solutions, is collaborating with automatic screen printing machine manufacturer, INO, and digital printing system manufacturer Ricoh to demonstrate the print performance of their DigiPeel HD papers at this year’s FESPA Global Print Exhibition.
One year since the product was launched at the same event, the qualities of DigiPeel HD will be displayed through live demonstrations on the INO semi-automatic screen printer machine VS6 500 and the Ricoh Pro C7100x. The demonstration will be supported by an exclusive viewing of a promotional video showing (below) the value of DigiPeel HD for industrial digital printing on textiles.
Arjowiggins Graphic’s DigiPeel HD has been designed to create the best results for industrial textile printers and garment manufacturers. Using heat transfer, with both cold and tepid peel to ensure smooth easy release, DigiPeel HD is ideal for printing logos and images onto textiles using digital press and screen printing. Full colour printing capabilities create photo realistic printing results with optimal reproduction of original colours, whilst the use of gang run printing customisation and no pre-printing or drying time create a much faster transition between jobs and efficient production. An added benefit, when screen printing on the INO automatic screen printing line with its optical registration, is that it enables the backing to deliver a precise and high quality print.
Fabienne Cocheteau, Specialities Marketing Manager of Arjowiggins Graphic says: “A year since we launched DigiPeel HD, we’re delighted to be able to demonstrate the product’s performance using INO’s screen printing machine and Ricoh’s digital press, validating the product on some of the most advanced digital and screen printing technology available on the market.
At FESPA we have been able to demonstrate the quality of the product. Designed to provide the flexibility and full colour brought by digital printing as well as the soft touch and washability resistance given by screen printing, our DigiPeel HD papers are the best paper solution for textile printers, graphic digital printers and garment manufacturers.”
Arjowiggins campaign showcases vibrant colour capabilities of cyclus offset
Arjowiggins Graphic and Antalis have today launched a new campaign to showcase the superb colour capabilities of recycled paper. The campaign will see 2,500 brand books from Hakkasan Group’s Ling Ling bar and club concept distributed to printers, designers and corporates highlighting the excellent print capabilities of Cyclus Offset and Antalis’ Digigreen Gloss.
The award winning brand books, designed by North, were originally created to support the global launch of the naughtier and more vivacious sister to Hakkasan restaurants, Ling Ling. Designed to represent the unique and hedonistic atmosphere of Ling Ling, the design featured stand-out bright and beautiful photography, 10 different covers and five different spines with variable text and a high level of vibrant colour.
The book covers have been printed on Digigreen Gloss 350gsm while inside pages feature Cyclus Offset 100% recycled 140gsm. The campaign, which incorporates digital promotion and PR and also features substantial direct mail, with each book accompanied by a personalised card of eight different designs printed on Cyclus Offset 300gsm.
On paper selection, Jeremy Coysten from North Design says: “For the original print run for Ling Ling we used a high gloss laminated cover to achieve a high-end fashion magazine feel, with Cyclus Offset selected for the inside because of its remarkable print performance which allowed us to keep the richness and colour really punchy. The challenge was applying binding tapes to the spine as the glue wasn’t sticking to the gloss lamination so the printer had to sand back the gloss laminate by hand. To overcome the problem for this longer print run we used Digigreen gloss for the cover”.
The book, which was printed by FE Burman using their HP Indigo presses, won Best in Digital Print at the Antalis Review in 2016.
The reprinted radiant books are an excellent demonstration of the high quality colour results recycled materials can achieve. Paul Regan, Director of FE Burman, says: “The mix of print quality of both Digigreen and Cyclus Offset and also the efficiency and technology of the HP Indigo presses, has enabled us to produce a product of excellent quality and colour vibrancy”.
Angela DeVorchik, Operational Marketing Manager, Arjowiggins Graphic UK, says: “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to re-print the award-winning Ling Ling book, and are very proud of the performance of Cyclus Offset in such a demanding colour print project. We’re excited to share the re-printed book with printing and design experts, and to demonstrate the stunning results achieved when using recycled materials in vibrant and colourful printing”
Mike Bennett, Marketing Manger, Antalis UK says: “This is an exceptionally well designed and printed book that truly reflects the character of the brand and how it appeals to its core audience. We’re really pleased with the role our paper plays in achieving the overall quality of the printed product”

The campaign is being rolled out in the UK by Antalis a stockist of Cyclus. Mike Bennett, Marketing Manager Antalis UK comments: “We are proud that this Cyclus campaign supports children across the globe. Through this partnership approach we are able to showcase to businesses the high-end shade and finish available for their printed communication as well as the first-rate green credentials of this innovative range. When compared to the manufacture of non-recycled papers the manufacturing process reduces energy consumption, uses less water, diverts waste from landfill and the CO2 emissions are substantially lower. This environmental story helps contribute to a business’s message and has been neatly included in the campaign mailer to assist customers.”
