Valmet and Shanying International Holdings Co., Ltd. have signed a contract regarding a delivery of a mill waste-fired boiler plant to Shanying Huazhong Paper's paper mill, in the city of Jingzhou in Hubei province, China. The new waste-to-energy boiler plant will supply electricity for the paper mill and enables the mill to utilize all of its mill waste in energy production.

The order was included in Valmet's fourth quarter 2017 orders received. The value of the order will not be disclosed.

valmet logoShanying International Holdings' investment in waste-to-energy solution enables high overall efficiency with very effective heat and power generation and supports circular economy. Installation is scheduled to begin in June 2018. Heat and power production will start early 2019.

"Valmet's boiler technology offers the highest steam parameters and overall plant efficiency. We expect to achieve high economic efficiency with reduced need for maintenance and production shut-downs," says Yi Shuai, Plant Director at power plant of Shanying Huazhong Paper. "The tailor-made boiler design meets our expectations of steam parameters which allows us to utilize standard turbine, and we believe it will help to optimize the entire plant," he continues.

"This boiler delivery will be the first paper mill waste-to-energy boiler which has the highest steam parameters. We have developed our waste-to-energy concept especially for this type of power plants. The solution will enable excellent efficiency through high steam parameters even when combusting demanding waste fuels. Utilizing waste in energy production will enable a significant reduction of CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuel powered plants," says Kai Janhunen, Vice President, Energy business unit, Valmet.

Valmet announced in December 2017, that it will supply an OptiConcept M containerboard making line for Shanying International Holdings.

Technical information about the delivery

Valmet's delivery includes major parts of a CYMIC boiler island from fuel silo to boiler outlet. The boiler uses circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology.

The green field boiler plant will use mill waste (paper rejects, pulp rejects and pulp sludge) as its fuel totaling to 260,000 tons of waste annually. Light fuel oil is used only for start-ups. The chlorine and alkaline content in the waste derived fuel is relatively high, but using Valmet's circulating fluidized bed technology the emissions are controlled efficiently.

Valmet has introduced a new compact moisturizer, Valmet IQ Converting Moisturizer, for self-adhesive laminating lines. This application-matched solution corrects all kinds of curl and cross-direction moisture profiles and complements Valmet's quality management system offering for self-adhesive laminators.

"With IQ Converting Moisturizer, self-adhesive label manufacturers can control curl much faster and more accurately compared with conventional steam or spray systems. Its remoistening capacity is up to five times higher compared with conventional systems, making it an excellent choice for high-speed lines, too. The new moisturizer can be connected to CD/MD controls to stabilize product quality during speed and grade changes," says Mikko Talonen, Business Manager, Automation, Valmet.

Valmet has introduced a predictive tool for detecting recovery boiler leaks - Valmet Recovery Boiler Leak Detector. This innovative diagnostics application with advanced analytics enables boiler owners to detect even the smallest tube leaks in an unprecedented way, resulting in significantly improved boiler safety and reduced damage risks.

valmet logoTypically, distributed control systems (DCS) have only relatively primitive tools for recovery boiler leak detection. These include simple differentials between the feedwater and the steam, or alarms for low drum level and high furnace pressure that are activated only in the case of very large and sudden leaks. With these traditional tools, it is virtually impossible to notice a minor leak in the boiler furnace. A small undetected leak may grow, rupture a tube and lead to severe damages or even to a major smelt-water explosion.

"Valmet Recovery Boiler Leak Detector now takes leak detection a major step forward by combining advanced mass and chemical balance calculations. This makes it an invaluable diagnostics tool for detecting leaks at their early stages," says Timo Laurila, Business Manager, Recovery Analyzers and Advanced Process Controls, Valmet.

Currently, the leak detection solution is used by several pulp mills, and the results gained with it have been very positive.

Technical information about Valmet Recovery Boiler Leak Detector

Valmet Recovery Boiler Leak Detector typically recognizes a 0.25-0.50% difference between the feedwater and the steam in the feedwater flow. Additionally, the application features an advanced chemical balance calculation, which enables higher accuracy and identification of critical leaks and separation from non-critical leaks. The balance is typically calculated using phosphate as a tracer.

Alarm levels can be set low enough so that a leak can be diagnosed before a tube is ruptured. As boiler load swings are taken into account, there are no unnecessary alarms due to changes in load.

Leak rate monitoring and alarms can be tested safely during normal operation by using a blowout line for leak simulation. Operator instructions and training for boiler leak detection and management are included in the delivery scope.

Valmet Recovery Boiler Leak Detector is part of the Valmet Recovery Boiler Optimizer product portfolio and can be implemented on any DCS.

The Board of Directors of Valmet Oyj has decided on a new long-term share-based incentive plan for Valmet's key employees. The aim of the plan is to combine the objectives of the shareholders and the key employees in order to increase the value of the Company in the long run, to commit the key employees to the Company, and to offer them a competitive reward plan based on holding the Company's shares.

valmet logoThe plan includes three discretionary periods, which are the calendar years 2018, 2019 and 2020. Valmet's Board of Directors shall decide on the performance criteria and targets in the beginning of each discretionary period. The potential reward from the discretionary period 2018 is based on Valmet's Comparable EBITA margin and orders received growth (%) of the stable business, that is, the Services and Automation business lines. The potential reward from the discretionary period 2018 will be paid partly in Company shares and partly in cash in 2019. The proportion to be paid in cash is intended to cover taxes and tax-related costs arising from the reward to the key employee.

Furthermore, the members of Valmet's Executive Team are recommended to own and hold an amount of Company shares equaling to their gross annual base salary (100 percent ownership recommendation).

The rewarded shares may not be transferred during the restriction period, which will end two years from the end of the discretionary period. As a rule, no reward is paid if the key employee's employment or service at Valmet ends before the reward payment. Should a key employee's employment or service end during the restriction period, he or she must, as a rule, gratuitously return the shares given as reward to the Company.

The plan is directed to a total of approximately 120 participants, of which 80 are key employees in management positions (including Executive Team members), and 40 are management talents, which is a new target group in Valmet's share based incentive plan. The total combined reward to be paid based on the plan is capped to an approximate maximum of 586,000 shares in Valmet Oyj, representing the gross reward before the deduction of taxes and tax-related costs arising from the reward.
