mondi_newpic

After the success of Mondi’s first Digital Specialist Forum (DSF) in Vienna, the company will host DSF 2.0, bringing customers together with industry experts to learn more about new trends and technologies in digital printing.

The impressive list of international guest speakers includes Hans van Lith, CEO of Eclipse, a digital communication and marketing service provider based in the Netherlands; Tony Hodgson, CEO of PODi UK, a branch of the PODi organisation, which drives the demand for digital print applications and helps PODi members build successful digital print businesses; Vito Ferrone, CEO and founder of the Milan based printing house Loretoprint – a company that merges digital innovation and corporate social responsibility to cooperate with NGOs to improve the living conditions in Haiti; and Ulbe Jelluma, a seasoned marketing and advertising professional and Print Power’s Marketing Manager.

“Our uncoated fine paper business development is tightly aligned with the current market focus on digital printing and sustainable production. There has been continuous growth in our eco-friendly Green Range and digital printing portfolio, not to mention a number of initiatives, such as online tutorials and events, which help us maintain an ongoing dialogue with our customers about how their needs can be best met by applying the latest industry trends and technologies,” explains Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director, Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

Determining the best papers for specific technologies and desired applications has been a driving force behind Mondi’s digital programmes. With the continuing growth in the digital print market, the company also works together closely with OEMs to develop new digital papers – the latest being DNS® indigo, Color Copy indigo and DNS® high-speed inkjet.

Both Color Copy indigo and DNS® indigo received HP’s 3-star certification, which is the highest performance rating for HP Indigo digital presses and indicates the best performance for runnability, fixing and blanket compatibility. In terms of optimal applications, HP recommended Color Copy indigo for photo book printing due to its smooth surface characteristics and natural whiteness level, whereas the high-white DNS® indigo is recommend for applications requiring strong contrasts such as point of sale material, corporate stationery, company reports and brochures. DNS® high-speed inkjet is Mondi’s latest development for transactional and transpromotional communication, offering excellent colour density and sharp definition, which is essential for barcode and logo readability.

The digital printing papers by Mondi can be used on all modern printing machines and come in the most important digital formats. They are tested and enhanced for toner and ink-jet, for sheet-and continuous feed and will – together with the printers’ skills – yield the benefits of digital printing: small print runs, print-on-demand and variable data applications to create highly customized print materials. Part of the Green Range product family, these papers are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certified, totally chlorine free, or 100% recycled.

Mondi expands its digital printing portfolio further with the introduction of DNS® high-speed inkjet. Other highlights: Color Copy indigo, DNS® indigo, NAUTILUS® and BIO TOP 3®.

The newly expanded digital printing portfolio from Mondi will be presented for the first time in the UK at the Northprint exhibition in Harrogate from 10th-12th May 2011 on stand A308. For Mondi’s digital printing experts, Northprint provides an opportunity to speak directly with printers about their digital printing needs and frequent applications. In addition to well-known digital brands such as Color Copy, NAUTILUS® SuperWhite and BIO TOP 3® digiprint Mondi will debut its latest digital printing paper DNS® high- speed inkjet.mondi_hispeed

“High-speed inkjet technology is a growing market segment that combines the volume of offset printing with the flexibility and personalisation of digital printing and, therefore, is an attractive option for transactional and transpromo applications,” explains Johannes Klumpp Sales and Marketing Director for Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper. “DNS® high-speed inkjet has a special surface treatment that ensures high quality print-outs and optimal ink absorption so colours will not bleed and clarity will not degrade due to dot-gain, for example. This is particularly important when one depends on crisp lines for barcode readability and accurate logo reproduction.”

Due to the special surface treatment, the absorption of both water-based dye and pigment inks can occur at printing speeds of 200 meters/minute and higher. The paper has a smooth surface and high whiteness level, which fosters sharp contrasts and even ink distribution. These surface characteristics and physical properties are also optimal for book-on-demand applications, where future growth for high-speed inkjet applications is expected. DNS® high-speed inkjet is also part of Mondi’s eco-friendly Green Range, FSC® certified, CBS2 certified in 90 gsm and available with a CO2 neutral option. Visitors will have an opportunity to ask Mondi representatives about the entire DNS® range which includesDNS® premium and the new DNS® indigo, which was launched alongside Color Copy indigo in February 2011. Both Indigo papers received HP’s 3-star certification, which is the highest performance rating for HP Indigo digital presses and indicates the best performance in terms of runnability, fixing and blanket compatibility.

UFP_Image_2367Also on display at Northprint is Mondi’s recycled digital printing brand, NAUTILUS®. The range consists of three 100% recycled papers, NAUTILUS® SuperWhite (with CO2 neutral option), NAUTILUS® Classic and NAUTILUS® Universal, and the recently launched NAUTILUS® ReFresh TRIOTEC made with unique TRIOTEC sandwich technology, which combines outer layers made from TCF (Totally Chlorine Free) virgin fibre with an inner layer made from 30% recycled fibre.

The BIOTOP 3® range includes BIO TOP 3® digiprint, which was specifically produced for digital machines, such as those used for ‘book on demand’ printing. BIO TOP 3® digiprint has an ideal off-white shade and opacity for digital book printing and is available in a wide assortment of digital formats. Mondi’s wide digital portfolio is suitable for many applications, such as digital print communication, digital print publishing, digital print imaging, transactional, transpromotional and direct mailing. The entire digital printing portfolio is part of the Green Range of FSC®, TCFor 100% recycled papers.

DNS®high-speed inkjet was developed for the growing high-speed inkjet market. High-speed inkjet printing has emerged as a viable alternative to offset printing for transactional and transpromotional applications.

Professional print rooms continue to broaden their printing potential with state-of-the-art digital printing machines.  In line with the latest technology to enter professional print rooms, Mondi has launched a new digital paper, DNS® high-speed inkjet. A part of the DNS® portfolio (short for Digital Needs Specialist), DNS® high-speed inkjet was developed in close cooperation with OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) with a specially optimised surface for the absorption of water-based dye or pigment inks at high printing speeds of 200 meters/minute and higher.

“The majority of the high-speed inkjet market still uses dye inks, although certain printing machines exclusively use pigment inks. DNS® high-speed inkjet is not limited for use on machines that use ‘either/or’; it has been optimised for both dye and pigment inks, which we believe is an important feature for printers and for future developments in ink technology,” explains Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director for Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper.

High-speed inkjet machines offer the flexibility of digital printing — variable data and customer-focused personalised communication — and the cost effective, high volumes possible with offset printing. Reflecting these market trends, Mondi developed DNS® high-speed inkjet with transactional, transpromotional and direct mail applications in mind. The paper has a smooth surface and high whiteness level, which fosters sharp contrasts and even ink distribution. These surface characteristics and physical properties are also optimal for book-on-demand applications, where future growth for high-speed inkjet applications is expected.

Due to the special surface treatment of DNS® high-speed inkjet, pigment and dye ink absorption occurs without colour-bleed or dot gain, which is a necessity for accurate logo reproduction, barcode and text readability with transactional and transpromotional documents. In general, the colour uniformity achieved with DNS® high-speed inkjet ensures smooth colour transition for images and graphics. At the same time, impressive high colour density and excellent results are attainable at low ink levels, which support the economical consumption of ink.

“We are convinced of the benefits of high-speed inkjet technology and its growing position in the digital print market,“ says Mr. Lubomir Klinka , General Director of Cromwell Bratislava. Cromwell is one of the leading hybrid post operators, based in Bratislava, Slovakia, and a DNS® high-speed inkjet customer. “The print results achieved with DNS® high-speed inkjet are impressive and we are confident that it is one of the best papers for our Océ high-speed inkjet machine.”

DNS® high-speed inkjet is available in 80 and 90 gsm reels ranging in diameter from 700-1450 mm and offering reel widths from 21 cm and wider as well as vertical and horizontal reel orientations. A member of Mondi’s Green Range of eco-friendly papers, it is FSC® certified, CBS2 certified (clearing bank standard) in 90 gsm and offered with a CO2 neutral option.

Mondi promotes the responsible management of forest and water resources, giving online participants a Color Copy branded water bottle and a chance to win a scooter.

To draw attention to water scarcity and the responsible management of the world’s natural resources, Mondi has launched an online site (www.mondigroup.com/waterday) to celebrate World Forest Day and World Water Day.  The online contest runs until March 29, offering all participants a chance to learn more about Mondi’s initiatives to conserve forest and water resources. The first 100 participants will receive a re-usable Color Copy branded stainless steel water bottle and have a chance to win a scooter. World Water Day is an initiative that grew out of the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro. Similarly, World Forest Day is a day of observance to remind global citizens about the value of forests and the importance of exercising eco-conscious behaviour as individuals and as industry leaders.

As a global paper and packaging manufacturer, Mondi’s Green Range was first launched in 2006 within the business unit Uncoated Fine Paper to underline the areas where Mondi can make the biggest contributions to eco-friendly production.  Forest + Water+ Air became the basis of the Mondi Green Range, which has now grown to include products from all business units and acts as a platform to deliver messages about new green initiatives and products developed by Mondi. Ultimately, the goal of the Green Range is to implement inherently sustainable practices.

As part of Mondi’s role in the responsible management of the world’s forests, water and air, among other activities Mondi plants 40 million trees each year to ensure sustained growth and works together with the WWF to support the rehabilitation of the wetlands in South Africa. Moreover, the CO2 emissions for each sheet of paper have been reduced by 15%. Mondi has been lauded by several organisations for its eco-conscious behaviours. In 2011, both Mondi Group and Mondi SCP mill in Ružomberok, Slovakia received PPI awards for Environmental Strategy of the Year. The same year, the WWF ranked Mondi No. 1 in the WWF’s Paper Company Environmental Index.  For more information about Mondi’s green initiatives and products, please visit www.mondigroup.com/greenrange.

Mondi launches the 2011 Color Copy campaign with flirty new ads, a Facebook site, an online game and a chance to win a Sony Vaio Subnotebook.

ufp_sp_cc_90_sra3_2062This month, global paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi launched its new “Feel the Difference” Color Copy campaign with the slogan, “Only the best quality feels this good”. The 2011 campaign plays on Color Copy’s haptics and its reputation as a smooth high quality colour laser paper. The new ads feature a Color Copy-clad man or woman reclining on a smooth sheet of Color Copy — a fun visual metaphor that suggests Color Copy is smooth enough to surround oneself in.

“As part of our 2011 ‘Feel the Difference Campaign’, our new ads emphasise the smooth feel of Color Copy and the pleasant, tactile experience it offers together with an element of luxury to illustrate that it is a high quality, premium paper,” explains Johannes Klumpp, Marketing and Sales Director Mondi Uncoated Fine Paper. “In addition to the information on our Color Copy website and Facebook page, customers will also find stickers on all Color Copy reams with details about our new online game.”

As part of the “Feel the Difference” Campaign, the Mondi website (www.mondigroup.com/colorcopy) and the Color Copy Facebook page provide a link to the new online game, where three animated printing machines release printouts of “soft” and “hard” pictures. Players collect points by catching and dragging the “soft” Color Copy printouts to the filing box before they hit the ground. The monthly high-score prize is an apple iPod nano and those participants with overall high scores can register to take part in a prize draw to win a Sony Vaio Subnotebook, which will be awarded after game goes offline in August.

In the 2010 EMGE survey on cutsize papers, participants ranked Color Copy No. 1 in Western Europe when it came to performance. Color Copy is also part of Mondi’s eco-friendly Green Range of papers, is CO2 Neutral, FSC® certified, and has the EU Ecolabel, making it an environmentally friendly choice for full colour print-outs, high impact presentations, promotional material, direct mailings, business plans, or print proofs. The Color Copy product portfolio has consistently expanded over the last 21 years and most recently launched Color Copy indigo, an HP 3-star certified paper for HP Indigo digital presses. All Green Range papers are FSC certified, totally chlorine free (TCF) or 100% recycled.
